SSL 4000G+ Computer Power Supply 24 Volt rail issue

Hi Guys,

I have a problem, in that the 24 Volt LED on my computer power supply is out, and when I trouble shoot the problem I have found that the little tiny 2 Amp fuse on the 24 Volt 82E98 Regulator card is blown. I bridged it out after determining that there was no short on the card or the rest of the 24 volt supply, but still no luck.

I never really noticed if this LED was on or off before, but I did notice that the Total Recall Computer was not running since I installed this console in this current studio. I do not know if the lack of this 24 Volt rail is the cause of teh total recall computer issue, but maybe someone more experienced than me can help me solve this. Anyone seen this problem before? Can someone help me get this 24 Volt rail up and running and hopefully get the total recall computer running. The rest of the automation system and mix computer seems to work just fine without the 24 volt rail. I can still save setups but cannot recall them. Everything else on the SSL computer seems to work fine.

Looking through the service manual it seems the 24v rail is only used for the sl694 floppy 8".

Regarding the TR error: When you type Play Setup does it come with an error about not being able to communicate with the TR? Or is it maybe something to do with the video signal not being displayed?

Hi there,

I can save the setup and I see all the little lights flash on the fader and I hear the slight scan noise in the monitors to indicate that it scans all the channel settings and saves it to disk. I see the setup saved on the disk. When I type play setup the system pauses for about 30 seconds then comes back with the message that the TR computer is not running. so I do not get the recall come up on the screen. If I do the diagnostic I can see the data coming from every single knob and switch on each channel, and when I change the knob positions I can see the numbers change on the screen. The problem is that the system keeps saying that the TR computer is not running.

I don't have 8" floppy's in this system, just 2 x 3 1/2" floppy's. So If this 24 Volt rail is only for that, then I don't need it. I do want to get the Total recall to work though. Before I decommissioned this desk in London prior to its move to this studio I tested the TR and it worked fine. We did several recalls with no issue.

So the scanning is done by the main cpu not the TR cpu. When you press Play Setup the main cpu ask to handshake with the TR cpu which is in charge of creating the RGB graphics. Your fault is that the TR doesn't respond to the handshake and the main cpu times out.

Because of the movement of the cpu you should try carefully reseating the entire TR sandwhich into the main motherboard (might need some force to get all the way in) and the interconnect ribbons. Next to suspect are the TR ROM and maybe the 4116 ram which are known to get stuck bits but they might not be part of the handshake.
