Can LEDs be used in comp and dim?

There is a wives tale floating around that a actual bulb has to be used in the comp or dim,
not a LED and if the bulb burns out it can cause problems on some desks? (I know it is not
the case with most desks I have worked with).

On our 8k desk the cut switch burned out and it wasn't until Bruce Millet asked if the cut lamp was dead and replaced it that the desk was back to normal. Don't know if thats the same thing but i thought i would chime in.

At CRC in Chicago where Bruce Brekenfeld is the tech he said that if the bulb goes out in the CUT switch you lose your monitor section.  He gave me a heads up on that.

I also had an outboard SSL G384 comp and one of the bulbs went out and the comp stopped passing signal. I called SSL and they sent me a bunch of replacement bulbs.

So yes, burnt out bulbs do cause a problem.

Yep, can definitely confirm the G384 comp does that.
I have had some E series where the comp would not work properly if the "IN" bulb was not in or burned out.
Not sure if there is a mod that can be done tho.

So what happens if LEDs are used?

there is also a condition on some 6000's where a cut light out in the 688 can cause a vhf oscillation that bleeds into the audio. It was a long time ago and that board isn't in Portland anymore.

As far as I know, if you keep the current in the same ballpark, LED or incandescent should be the same.

I've had LEDs in my comp and dim for years with no issues thus far. Hopefully it stays that way.

I tried to replace these bulps on comp and cut and for me it didn't work at all. (ssl6000E)
But i have enough spares for decades to come as i replaced all the channel bulps with LEDs.

To me the obvious answer would be to replace your cut and solo switches with
LEDs and keep those bulbs for your center section just in case you are "cursed"
with a wives tale situation.
