Console finally upright …..

Well after 2 years in storage I finally got to put my 4000e/g on its legs.  I bought it 2 years ago driving 24 hours with my wife to purchase. And yesterday it was both of us putting it upright. In these last 2 years I have posted many times and I would like to thank everyone that responded to my posts. I had many questions over the years. I’ve cleaned every channel and redid every fader. They were really bad and now feel like new. Got a Mpower and one computer running so I’ll be booting it up hopefully this week. 👍. I’ll post some pics soon …..

Pics soon. Turned console on and as expected issues.  I’ve changed a few bus switch’s on test jig for a few channels prior but now with all channels in I have about 30 to swap out. I might have just about that many spare 👍.  The main issue are there are a few channels where the cut is constantly on and also I’m unable to cut the rest of the channels. I don’t think they can all be bulbs.  Any ideas?  I also have to set up the program disc to suit my board. I took pics of my 8” floppy settings so I’ll do that next. Also waiting for wd40 to work on of course one screw on the center section to unscrew.  lol

I suggest installing the computer bypass connectors. That way you can troubleshoot the cut issues independent of the computer.
If you still have issues, you know those issues are within the console itself.

k pics.  where theres a will theres a way lol !!  also pix of it turned on. kinda rushed it but tonight i might bypass computer and work one or two buckets at a time.  i bought it as a 32 ch with a spare bucket so im short one bypass plug. ive since purchased 8 channels to fill it up  k

so today i bypassed computer and only switched on 24 channels. issue continued so i picked 8 channels that seemed to be responding ok. i then transferred those to 1 - 8. i kept console to just first bucket then ;

                         ch 1 - 8 were put on vca 1
                         vca 1 - 8 were put on zero
                         pressing solo on ch 1 - 8 does nothing for either bucket
                         pressing solo on vca 1 cuts all other vca but not ch 1 - 8
                         pressing solo on vca 2 - 8 cuts all other channels on both buckets

also when pressing vca to meters vu switch but faders do nothing. i finally got last screw out of of center section but now the channel pull tool seems to not catch that good. might have to redo threads or make new tools. k thanks for any suggestions

I was wondering how just you and your wife flipped the console onto its legs. With a little help I see.
Check the ribbon cables that go from the fader board to the lower buss card. Maybe ones not tight.
While you're at it you might want to check the little ribbon jumpers that go between the first and second buckets.

Having someone push from the bottom of the 651 (center section) is always a good idea. Once you get it started it's easy
to get your hands under the ends. Beware, the latching slider rails on the 651 like to fail so having a helper handy is important.
Especially if you don't know if the latches will catch on yours. On mine the front rail won't latch so I cut a piece of 3/4" plywood as
wide as the 651 and 8 3/4 " high and I put it between the back of the faders and under the lip of the 651 to hold it up. Maybe rip a piece of 2 x 4 and have it handy.

Thanks. Really rushing so maybe I was thinking of taking all channels out and cleaning connectors and reseating ribbons. Also I got center section up with new 5mm screws. Oxy gold good for connectors ?

Do you have Solo Isolate switches in the centre section?
Sounds like from what you describe, the solo bus is not functioning.
Within a bucket of 8, it should work regardless of the centre section status.
However, some channels were modified to have individual channel solo isolate, which was a press switch as part of the Group Trim pot.

With further testing I see that if I solo a certain vca 1-8 , ch 1-8 will display cuts but when I flip a ch 1-8 to independent or that corresponding vca fader that was soloed,  the cut light would go off. I’ve seen a video where u can group channels. I think I might hook up computer again and program new disc with the info from older drive and see how it goes.

K reseated and cleaned connectors on first 3 cards in main section.  Seems vu to
Meter shows signs but only ch 1-8.  Turning on 1-24 seemed to help. Still issue with cuts and solo. I have all vca to zero.  Gonna stop for now and go thru and clean and reseat connections and hopefully it helps a bit.  K thanks

Okay. I didn’t clean or reseat anything yet but have all buckets on.  Here’s the solo/cut situation. Seems like they are almost working.  Only thing is some channels input/mic shut off when other solo buttons. Switched on. Seems ch 25-40 and only ch 6 on left side of center section.   Maybe board is coming back to life gradually. lol.  Priobabaly been dormant for at least 3-4 years.  K. 👍👍👍
