Ultimation Computer Cards

 Hello . We have been trying to diagnose our 4056 g/g+ Ultimation system for a long time. Our main problem is the master fader vca is receiving voltage spikes which trigger the master fader vca to turn down. We have had many tecs fly in to look it over and no one can seem to pinpoint the problem. Our last hope for our studio computer would be to possibly swap out the computer card the master fader is attached to via the flat ribbon connectors to see if it is a problem with the caps in the sample and hold circuit. We have been told these caps rarely ever fail but we are running out of potential causes to check.
 If any one out there has a spare Ultimation fader card we could try to swap with ours we could see if the problem exists on the card or if it is the same behavior then it points to other causes.i.e. shorting ribbon cables etc... I know it is a lot to ask but we are against a wall with this system and this diagnosis would tell us much about our little voltage problem with the master vca fader. Thanks Guys.

Pull the cards you think are the problem and send them to Keith at Recycled Audio. If he can't fix it then......

did you look at the 20 card in the center section?
also if ribbons to the computer aren't ruled out yet just swap them on both sides for any of the other ones.
s15 is another one that could cause problems..that's pretty much it on the console side, unless the actual fader is broken.

 Thanks for the suggestions . Keith at recycled thinks its cross talk from the 50 way ribbon cable which according to him is half and half data and send and return. He says he has had to separate the ribbon cable down the middle to keep the two streams from interfering with each other in the past . Guess we will try that first. Is there another place that makes or has stock of new 50 pin ribbon cables we could buy to try? Is there something special about the ones used in the Ultimation system?

No it's just 3m flat ribbon cable later models like mine are in a circle form like a snake with black sheathing. You can get the cable and connectors on digikey or mouser.

You in USA I'm sure Bruce has some laying around.

We made new ribbon cables and observed the same problem so I guess it isn't the ribbons.
 We also tried a different memory card which made the problem worse it seemed. Next we will try and find a cpu card and keep swapping cards until we get a break. Any one have a spare master fader we could try and swap out? Thanks guys for your suggestions .
