I still seem to be circling this problem. I never thought I would ever need to recall a mix from scratch until today. I have a late model 4000 G+ that everything works great except the TR computer. I can save the setup on the disk and I can list the setup, but if I try to play the setup, it gives me a message saying TR computer not running, and "I Don't understand". not sure why.
Does anyone have a step by step procedure to trouble shoot a faulty TR computer? Lets start with a detailed list of all of the connections to and from the TR computer, Keyboard and the rest of the system. Can anyone give me a detailed list of what cables should be connected where? I have all the manuals, but these are not easy to follow when it comes to cabling and the internals of the computer rack.
I tested the TR before decommissioning this console in London in 2015, re-installed it in the Caribbean 1 year later, and most everything worked, except the TR. I did the TR tests in the manual and I can see all the data going to the TR computer, but when I try to test replaying the data, NO TR computer running.
All the computer voltages are good, except the unused +24 Volt rail which is for the 8" floppy drives that we do not have in this system.
I tried disconnecting all the data cables between the console and the rack, and tried the TR recall with just one bucket connected at a time, in case something was shorted in the console, but still no luck. I tried using the remote keyboard, but no luck. I have pulled and reseated the TR computer and video card several times, inspected them thoroughly and cannot find any obvious defects.
It is possible a cable may be wrongly connected in the decommission, although we labeled everything very well. There is a ribbon cable on the front of the TR computer card that goes to the front fold down panel mother board on the 691, I need to verify that this cable is connected in the correct place, anyone know where it goes for sure? any other checks I can do with a multimeter at any points to trouble shoot this TR computer?
any lights that should be on or off on the cards I should look for?
any step by step testing procedures I can follow to fix this?
I am very technically capable, and do all of my own repairs, recapping, rebuilding etc. I am not that logic savvy though, never did much logic trouble shooting.
Any help would be appreciated. This desk is down in the Caribbean, so as you can imagine, very limited technical resources down here to help me fix it. What about the Keyboard section? any cables there that are critical to TR computer running? maybe something got mis-cabled, or not properly connected?
