Difference between 4000E, G & G+

Good Morning!

Sorry if this question has been asked before – I couldn't find a detailed listing about the differences.

I am not so much interested in the sonic differences but the technical ones.

For instance I've heard, if I recall correctly, that E series insert sends/returns and bus sends are unbalanced. That there is the coathanger mod to overcome this?!? Internal gain structure is different. Or that E/G+ Modules are not interchangeable without modification. Oxygen free cables came with the G series. You see, a lot of superficial knowledge.

I you can clarify things, please chime in. Any input welcome!

Hi Mad Hias (in Austria!)
As far as I know, NONE of the SSL consoles had unbalanced insert send or returns and ALL the circuits and jacks were wired balanced. I worked at SSL from 1980-87 and have no knowledge of this at all.

The so called 'coathanger mod' was introduced in the early 1980's from memory and was just connected with overall screening on the 611E motherboard but Andy Millar on here may know more than me as I am just a wiring person.

I will draw and show some of the SSL patchbay wiring shortly in a schematic form on this website when I get time as not many people seem to know about this and it needs explaining.

It's me Matthias (hence mad hias) – remember, you've wired at least half of my console. Bought it from Michael Stockdale and George Gilbert did the commissioning in 2013. Nice to hear from you!
