Haven't done the gotek for a 3.5" disk yet, but it will be surely easier than the 8" version.

Only need to grab a few more goteks and test it out. One of the other to-do items on this long project list.

Hi All,

A bit has been going on over the last few months that has been keeping me very busy.

First up is the refurbishment of the SL651E, and the reverse engineering of the centre section cards. The cards are almost all done, excepting the 33 & 34. Parts availability is becoming a serious issue.





Last weekend I picked up an entire rack with 2x 661E PSUs, Changover Unit, 665E PSU, G+ Computer with TR and 4/100C processor!!!, and a remote keyboard. The computer started up perfectly, and TR worked as well, but the PSU was in real bad shape and let off the smoke of death, so I've stripped it and turning it in to a switch mode PSU.











Lastly I've been looking in to the TR computer, and have started reverse engineering that. CPU and HRG boards are done - more as a backup if my current ones fail - but with hopes to create something as a more modern replacement.

Been a while as lots has been going on.

Just got through a massive backlog of card orders, and can return to working on my own console for a change. Attached is a list of cards I've completed if anyone is interested 
Here's a bit of what's been happening

6048E Servicing

This year I've been helping get a 6048E back up to spec. There were quite a few issues with it, but am on the home straight now. The SL688V had insulation on the Solo Isolate switches to prevent contact with the frame. There is next to no space in that section, and they were pressing hard against the frame. Of course over time it becomes brittle, along with the switches needing to be replaced. What was to be an easy job, took many hours due to the complex wiring. In the last photo you can see where the Solo Isolate wiring connects in to the back of the bucket.









What happens when a leg of an LED shorts to the frame of your module. Resistor pack removed from E12 logic card.




RML CPU Total Recall Computer

Finally got the courage to fire up my clone of the RML CPU card. Had to grab the chips off the original, but it fired up perfectly first time. Very happy! Next is the HRG card.




Magic Smoke

After replacing the cards in my centre section with my clones, I ran across a really strange modification. On pressing the "Group" button for the oscillator, the magic smoke came pouring out of the E31 card. Specifically the 10 ohm output resistor to ground, of the Stereo Out Right channel. After a while, I chased it down to a modification that someone had made to the centre section. There was a connection from the Group and Quad Bus oscillator switches, direct to pin 51 of the E31 card. The 0V connection had been removed. This meant that when either of these switches was engaged, 18V was sent direct to the 0V audio pin. I have no idea of the reasoning for this modification. I am certain my centre section come from a Japanese broadcast installation.

Yes that's correct. Laser cut 3mm aluminium.

Though it is to suit NKK switches, loaded to a PCB mounted on the rear.
Makes it super easy to load and service the switches, and around 1/4 of the price.
