Talk back and listen mic options.

Hey all!

Just double checking about talkback and listen mic options.

From what I know. The talk back card expects an electret mic.
I am just a bit lost on what to do to make it ok with a dynamic or other type.
We want to wire in other mics for this job as our talkback has become odd.

What I understand is the two cards for this are for talkback and for listen.
In my console, the two cards are seeming identical. I did notice jumpers that seem to be labelled Tp1 Tp2 and Tp3
Two of which are jumped together. Can’t remember which two. I’ll have to check again.
Both cards are “jumped” the same.

Is there any documentation otherwise to say what can be done to wire this up for a set of dynamic or other type of mic?

I just can’t find it in my docs.

Let’s add:
I also have an oddity in the board which I have not tried to check yet.
But the talk back when being listened to by the cue send, get attenuated by the tb to studio knob. Not the tb to cues.

I find this odd
Obviously not expected. Any idea why it would possibly be the case?

Just found this because we never attenuate these knobs.

As the wiring moderator going back over 10 years, I have only just recently got back on here as the site seemed insecure and I was busy etc.
I lost loads of pictires and details years ago as a hacker deleted so much stuff, hence my hesitation with this.
Anyway, to help answer your question, SSL used Eagle Condenser Electrostatic mics on theire 651 center sections and 621 Producer panel with the 4 and 6 k consoles
I have one here and is powered by a 1.5v battery and has signal and ground (connected to the -neg of any power source). Red, blue and black wires (but could be different!). So, 2 wires were for 1.5v power with the ground wire of that along with the signal wire of the mic being the mic signal.
I am not technical, just a very experienced SSL wireman, after working at SSL for 7 years from 1980-87 so, I can't fix anything but I certainly know how to wire anything!
I have one of those Eagle Condenser mics and will send a picture when I can find it but would have thought that if you used a dynamic mic, it would need some sort of mic amp circuitry in the 651 or elsewhere but you can avoid the SSL these days and send talk back to to a personal monitor setup. Things keep changing rapidly these days!
For the record: Talk back is from the Control Room to the live room, normally via headphones.
Return talk back is FROM the live room areas to the Control Room, hence the listen mics (which go straight to the 651 Compressor). These can be separate mics to those used in the live room or dedicated mics, normally hung high up in older days which are separate and switch off when you record so there is no feedback. I hope I'm a right on this and it makes sense.
