Got my hands on a 2tools for my console once I have it installed. Gonna want to record to my otari mx80 24 tack then dump to pro tools.  Would it be possible to have both going in sync or do I have to record to tape fist then transfer and mix. Also any recommendations on sync.  I’m thinking a old school digidesign sync I/o should be ok. But I’m thinking of getting a antelope 64 which might be able to export sync. Could I stripe to the 24 track from the sync out from chosen device then run tape and pro tools together with the 2tools ??   Thanks

2Tools emulates a tape machine (if you don't have one) and allows you to still use the SSL computer automation with ProTools.
If you want to use a real tape machine, you need to stripe a track with SMPTE, send this to the SSL computer, and you don't need a 2Tools.
If you want to sync the tape machine to ProTools, (and maybe the SSL computer at the same time) then you will need something like an Adams Smith Zeta III, which will pull all the sync together.
ProTools would be the master SMPTE, and the tape machine and SSL COmputer would be slaves.

I've not got a Zeta III, but assume that last comment is correct in the hierarchy of master/slave units.

Thanks Anthony. I’ve seen a video with the Adams smith syncing daw to tape. I’m sure they go for more than the 2tools. Would the Adams replace the 2tools or be used in conjunction with?  Or could I just record to tape seperate then bounce into pro tools and patch in the 2tools

You don't really need the Adams Smith unless you want to sync Protools to the tape machine, to either bounce tracks back and forth, or if you want to run automated mixes with a combination of Protools tracks and tape tracks at the same time.

I'm on the hunt for a 2Tools if anyone has one. It's for a Neve VRP72

Just looking to record to tape first then bounce to pro tools to edit and mix with ssl computer. K thanks. Hope to be setting up this console finally in a few more months.  🤞🤞
