10db Level drop around EQ/INS Switch
« on: May 22, 2026, 10:30:49 AM »
Hi,
I have one Channel where the Level ist down by about 10db if EQ and INS PRE is not activated.
I tracked the problem down to the 82E11 Group Amp Card. When I use a card from another Channel, the Problem is gone.
I just can't get my head around it... I don't find any clues in the Schematic of the 82E11 handling any of the EQ/INS switches/Signal

I removed all of the ICs on the 82E11 until the Signal was gone.
Only T5 and T7 had to be on the Board to pass signal.
I swapped them out, just in case, replaced the only two 100uf Cīs in the Signal path, nothing changes.

The Level is still down and has a few more overtones.
Also the Sinewave on the Scope was not a pure Sine anymore.

The attenuated signal can be traced back to the Input Amp, and to the VCA Card, but they work fine if a Group Amp Card from another channel is in Place.

(Its an very early E Series, and the Group Amp Card has a Sub Board on top for the supercue Function).

Any help is much appreciated!

Thanks,
Tilmann

I'd replace all the caps, especially if they are orange. Make sure nothing has eaten any of traces.

Thanks, definitely will do that and see if this is the problem.
My Console is so old, it has almost no electrolytic caps in it, all tantalum Cīs
There were a few orange ones, I replaced most of it.

Replace the tantalum caps also. They have a habit of shorting. Later versions of the SSL's didn't use them. Good luck.

Completely recapped the Card, that fixed the Problem!
Thanks Dave for pointing out the obvious...
Wasted a few hours to find it.

Next time if a card has a fault or problem, I will recap them first.

Thanks,
