Replacement Computer Monitor

I am trying to put a VGA into a 9000J.  RGBS SCART signal from the computer.

I am not sure that the cheaper boxes will work because of the resolution difference.  I tried one and the VGA monitor displayed "out of range".  I also went through this with NTSC "multi sync" monitors with "sync on green" and they did not work.  A $6K panasonic broadcast plasma will, as will a Dramastic (although clumsily).  A solution I rigged some 14 years ago with a 4K involved a RGB PAL to PAL composite conversion, then a PAL to NTSC conversion and it was workable but with herringbone patterns.  Better solutions today.

I think this is the correct box that will scale the resolution of 4K and 9K computer RGBS (SCART) to VGA monitors:
I have emailed this company scanmagnetics.com but they do not answer emails.  I have not tried calling them in Finland yet.  Perhaps Paavo can muster a local response?


There are circuits which I tried, but could not get the timing correct.  Just do google image searches for "scart to vga converter circuit" and you can see them.

Hi Mike.  The scanmagnetics box looks promising.  Hopefully a fool proof simple solution will soon be unearthed.

Mike, did you got any picture through with multisync monitor? Did you connect wires to Scart connector or VGA?

On ebay, this used extron dvs304 can be purchased as low as $ 150.  Good luck

Paavo, thank you for contacting them.  An extra 1/4 price on all that you do there is extreme rendering to caesar.
swarapadi, I will be the guinea pig with that box I snagged one today for $130.  I am an Extron user and got a 304 from a reliable vendor. 
I will report back on this.

Thanks for pigging out Michael.  On the edge of my seat waiting for your report.  I went down the eBay Extron road a few months back, different model, no dice.  Easily could have been user error, rusty hamster wheel, who knows, no way to test it.  I'm feeling good about this one.  Best of luck.

I'm investigating an RGBS to DVI box that I have been assured works fully with the 9000J. Not exactly a cheap option at over £800 (UK) new!

Yes.  Sorry some life got in the way!
The Extron converter works for our applications.  It is not perfect as you can see in the picture- the top and bottom of the screen are removed.  It seems like it is in the input sampling.  I am on to Extron to try to get it perfect, but the client is fine with it as is.  EDIT I was able to adjust the scaler to get the full screen.  Great box! 
Plus I added a VGA switcher so that they can put DAW on the same monitor.

None.  The feed from the computer is the same RGBS SCART signal, and that Extron has either an auto detect or you can manually select the input type.  The input connectors are BNC.

Awesome.  Quick question.  Above, Swarapadi cited the Extron DVS 304.  In your post Mike, you mention the 320 which you snagged on ebay.  I want to be absolutely sure I get the right box, as the last Extron I got didn't work.  Sooo, whats the exact model of the one that's working for you Mike?
