Without getting into it to deep my powersupplies went down after some major power outages while I was over seas. My assistant and while Bruce Millet were on FaceTime diagnosed the issue, ps were shipped to LA fixed and returned. When I booted up yesterday everything seemed ok at first, a couple of strange issues and as I was troubleshooting smoke starts pouring out of the back of the desk. The plasma meter card was toasted. Anyway Bruce is flying out Tuesday, I can't take anymore of this. I am so behind right now I just need to get back up. But I do need someone local to call. I'm in Raleigh and there appears to be no one. Does anyone know a guy maybe a few hours away? Someone with tools, parts and knowledge of E Series desks.

A blown bridge rectifier. When the one went the other ps tried to carry the full load and blew too. He said the bridge rectifiers in the ps had been replaced at some point with good ones but not the best (or as Bruce put it as ‘hefty’ as they can be) so he pulled them all and put the best ones in there.

We just booked Bruce Millet's flight, taking the redeye out Tuesday night, gonna arrive here Wednesday morning. We are gonna get it. I will film some of the action, I already filmed me going insane up to this point. The movie will have a happy ending.

We have custom made boxes that stop power from coming back up.  The technology is pretty simple - the power is passed through a relay that is engaged by the same power.  Once power is gone, the relay opens and can not pass current until it is physically pressed again.    I don't know that particular product you linked to, but our relays look a bit beefier than that.    When I had an '87 4056E/G, I went through a few bridge rectifiers, before beefing them up, and finding a startup sequence that worked.  Then it was smooth sailing.
