Automation Question - Timecode Question

I am trouble getting my automation started and I can't figure what I am doing wrong.

I got to setup a new mix [SETUP][MIX]. All my lights go into ABS mode, the I hit [EX]. Timecode starts, but the bargraph faders are all showing full up. The only ones that show the correct level are the group faders and the Patchable VCA faders.  If I play back an old mix, the bar graphs move, but none of the VCA levels change.  Strange.

What might I be doing wrong?

Also is there a way to have the Automation sync to timecode from my Sync I/O. I have the DR Z Card in the computer.

Okay. If I change the ribbons from the groups to the any channel blocks those blocks work fine. It looks like it has to do with any signal that is going through a channel.  I opened up the center section to check 820 VCA card and that looked fine. While pulling out the card a chip came out.  It is an HE721C05-10 chip by HAMLIN. I have no idea where the chip came from.  It doesn't look like it came from the master VCA card as that looks intact.  If I turn off the center section I get about 1/2 the channels to respond to the computer.

I found where that chip went. I was a relay from the card next to it. I have confirmed that any fader not going through a channel strip communicates fine with the computer. Any fader that is tied to a VCA on the channel doesn't respond.

You really need to bypass the computer at VCA 1-8 to workout if it's a 020 card issue of the computer.

Either with a bypass lead or connecting input to output at the computer end. If it's the 020 card, it'll be easy to fix.

Here is what I found out.  Check the picture. I have a swith between the 651 and the A-H bucket switches.  If I turn that switch on, it disables all the VCA communication to the computer for the channels. With it off, I can get the computer to respond.  I have no idea what the switch controls.

Maybe you have a Computer Bypass Unit? It's normally a 1U rack.

I definitely don't have that.  This switch seems to be a mystery. If I turn it on, the leds on the meters change. I asked my tech and didn't know what it is for.

Hehehe.. it has to go somewhere after the switch and breakers... it has to be in some direction of either Centre or  internal Patchbay, maybe worth getting the meter out.

So the VU LED's change from Tape to ?

Line in. They go green.

Okay. Found what it does. It sends power to the section that contains the Channel In 1-24 and 25-25 buttons, master Ready Group, Master Cue Cuts, and that section just to right of the keyboard section. How does that relate to the automation system?

Could you take a pic of your Centre section? just to get an idea of what's fitted.

If you have Total Recall you have one of it's cards 82E88 insalled below the keyboard. Check if there is bad ribbon connection.
