Damn, awesome price and that is an expensive one!

I have to consider also solution like that as an alternative to the NPM meters. Mark may know of a meter on the market, I'm going to ask him. But I must tell you that cover work plate looks really slick!

On my case I'm still thinking what I'll be exactly doing regarding monitoring.
 
I want to use 100% the console monitoring capabilities, since they are already there. Such as A/B the console and DAW return.

But at the same time I think I'll need some type of independent monitor controller, something basic, to be able to work with the speakers with the console turned off. For instance, when I'm doing extensive editing I can do it only with the DAW.

Any suggestions?

Yeah, you want to have two feeds from the SSL, one at the 025 card, the other after the main volume pot. You can then choose the Balanced short 025 path, or the longer to hear AFL/PFL solo inplace

Do you find big differences in sound with it for monitoring purposes? Is that something that was originally thought by SSL? My question is, are those feed points available on the standard patch?

I guess for that you're already thinking of the situation where you have an external monitor controller to be able to select those inputs?

The standard monitoring section was fine in the 90's, great for 1/2" Tape, Cassettes, CD (with early 80/90's headroom) I found I had to -10db pad my DAT machine down going into this.

Currently monitoring directly from the SSL 025 card (this comes up on the patch and at the DL's) Monitor controller listening to :

SSL Mix running live

SSL Mix running live returning back from PT's with ITB Mastering

Original ITB Client Mix

Reference track

CD player Via SPDIF

iTunes library/Internet content Via Toslink

If you see the 651 as many separate items, the 025 card is just the Buffered/Balanced output of the Quad compressor/Master Fader.
