Recapping 4k Channel Strip, Bi Polar Confusion **SOLVED**

Hi Guys,

I recently purchased my first SSL product, A pair of re-racked 19" SSL G channels. I noticed that they had never been recapped so I ordered some caps immediately.

My question to you all here which I believe hasn't been asked after reading through all of the recapping threads. My cards all seem to use many "SU" Capacitors, SU capacitors seem to be Bi-Polar in nature. I had planned on replacing them with Panasonic FM's and FR's & FC's but now I'm wondering if I should keep them as SU's or replace them all with Nichicon green ES Bi-Polars?

I included a little pic of the originals on the left and my intended replacements on the right.

In Addition, Why do the SU's have a negative line down the side and if SU's are Bi-Polar Caps and were used throughout these cards then why do the cards have a + symbol etched? Was the Bi-Polar cap an afterthought or maybe SU's were more readily sourced?

Im a little confused, Does anyone have any input on this matter?

What are the cards exactly you have in your channel? G-Series uses bipolar caps in many places (coupling caps).

I apologise, I should have paid more attention to my post.

I added images of the internals. Hopefully these will allow you to see exactly what version of the cards I'm using.

You'll be fine with your replacements. But there are not that many polar caps on your cards as your EQ is the E-Series 242 card (not G-Series 292 which uses mainly polar caps).

If you find any polar caps then yes, the green Nichicon are fine.

I was under the impression mine was a G- EQ

82E292 - Parametric Equaliser and Filter Card ("pink G-Series EQ")
82E242 - Parametric Equaliser and Filter Card ("black G-Series EQ")

Would this not suggest that the 242 was intended for the G whereby the 292 was for the the E also. not sure what the V is?

The 292 was introduced with the G-Series (1987), the 242 had been in the E for a while before that. Especially on the later G+ (from 1993), many consoles have a mix of both EQ versions.

Recapped both channels, sound amazing. Ended up using FR's for all the SU replacements.
